Tanneau continues, “The key ingredient for all teeth whitening processes is hydrogen peroxide. Each product and process will use different concentrations of hydrogen peroxide to whiten teeth.“

In-office whitening procedures often use up to 35% solutions of hydrogen peroxide in conjunction with LED or laser lights that activate the whitening gel. 

On the other hand, at-home whitening treatments only contain up to a 7% hydrogen peroxide concentration. While this lower concentration will still whiten your teeth, it will be some time before you find noticeable results. 

What allows professionals to whiten your teeth using high concentrations of hydrogen peroxide? They take extra care not to overdo it. When left on your teeth for long periods, you run the risk of leaving lasting damage to your gums and teeth enamel. 

Whitening clinics, on the other hand, take all the necessary precautions to protect the teeth and gums during in-office whitening. Over-the-counter products, on the other hand, will require you to follow the directions exactly or face incredibly adverse side effects.
