Aside from having a white, bright smile, having fresh breath is very important when you want to make a great impression. So here are some tips to help you keep your mouth fresh:
1. Regular Rinsing and Flossing
Bad breath is often caused by food particles stuck in between the gaps in your teeth. It’s good to brush your teeth 30 minutes after a meal, but if this isn’t always doable, then a simple mouth rinse with water is a quick fix. Flossing should be done daily, especially at night, to remove any food bits that the bacteria in your mouth can feed on.
2. Avoid Foods that Cause Bad Breath
Garlic, onions (especially raw ones!), dairy, canned tuna, and horseradish are really tasty foods, but they can give you bad breath! So when you’re on a date or in an important meeting, it might be a good idea to pick something else from the menu.
3. Clean your Tongue
Mouth cleaning shouldn’t just be for the teeth — but for the tongue, too! When you don’t clean your tongue, the bacteria that’s stuck on it could still spread to your teeth and cause bad breath even after brushing. Scrape it with a tongue cleaner (or simply brush it lightly if you don’t have one) when you brush.
4. Quit Smoking
Everyone knows that smoking can make your hands and clothes smell awful, and that it does the exact same thing for your breath! Quitting smoking will take away that bad odor in your mouth — and make you healthier, too.
5. Adopt Healthy Habits
You are responsible for what you eat, and making small changes can go a long way to keep bad breath at bay. Rinsing your mouth after every meal and trimming down on sugary snacks can go a long way in keeping your breath fresh. Also be sure you don’t neglect your gums!
6. Keep Your Mouth Wet
Bad breath can also be the result of dry mouth, so be sure you stay hydrated! And aside from drinking enough water, chewing on saliva-inducing fruits and vegetables such as apples, celery, and carrots are also helpful.
